Kura In The Community
Community & Education
At Kura, we believe the concept of “local” is key to sustainable hospitality. That’s why we hire local and buy local, and make sure that our community and natural surroundings are well taken care of.
Local Staff
Meet the Kura family and connect with the local community.
We hire exclusively Costa Rican staff from the local area. Many come from humble beginnings and we invest heavily in their training and professional development. Many hotels in the area lay off a high percentage of their staff during low season. But we provide ours with year round employment and plenty of opportunities for growth.
Local Products
From our restaurant to our spa, immerse yourself in everything Uvita.
At Kura, we make a conscious effort to source as many products as we can from close to home as possible. Much of our restaurant food comes from just around the corner and our minibars are stocked with local drinks and snacks. Guests can enjoy sumptuous 100% Costa Rican spa products and bathroom amenities too. On a design level, the Boruca masks you’ll see around the resort also come from a local tribe.
Supporting the Local Community
Our sense of community extends beyond the Kura family.
We work with a non-profit organization to support a school in Uvita. Through the generous donations of our guests, we have been able to fund infrastructure projects such as building new classrooms, as well as provide teaching materials and essential school supplies.
In the summertime we also support our local fair by helping collect litter to keep the town clean during these times of celebration. All the money raised during the fair goes towards community development projects.
Travel Locally, Travel Sustainably
“Kura goes the extra mile to work with all the neighbours in the area. We chatted with several of them and everyone spoke very highly of Kura’s involvement and concern for the community. First rate all round!”
